Programs and Education Director Job Description

 Position Title: Director of Programs and Education

FLSA: Non-exempt

General Purpose: Develops and implements education programs for various groups

Accountable to: The Executive Director/Curator


*Provide programs to a diverse group of people within various age groups who will be provided learning opportunities about the history of Geary County through a variety of experiences and sources.

*Develops and implements educational and community programs that will increase knowledge of and appreciation of Geary County history for both youth and adults

*Attends conferences and meetings to keep abreast of current trends

*Works with USD 475 to coordinate events and develop programs for Geary County youth

*Schedules and gives tours and programs

*Assists with curatorial collection management when needed

*Works to recruit, train and maintain active volunteers

*Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

*Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in history and/or communication, and/or English or

*Two (2) years of related experience or

*Any equivalent combination of experience and education as approved by the Board of Directors

*Computer and technology skills needed to accomplish job related skills

Necessary knowledge, skills and abilities:

Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and Past Perfect Museum Software and Publisher; use a calculator; multi-line telephone/intercom; microfilm reader/printer and copy machine

General knowledge of history

Writing and research skills

Ability to speak effectively to groups

Comfortable working both independently and as a team member with museum staff to develop plans for programs, events and exhibits

Ability to lift 50 pounds

Special Requirements

Possession of a valid driver’s license

Salary range: $35,000-45,000 annually

Benefits include: health insurance, paid vacation and sick leave. 

Work schedule is Tuesday-Saturday
